Andradite is a species of garnet and includes three varieties: Melanite (Black), Demantoid (Vivid Green) and Topazolite (Yellow Green). Andradite occurs in skarns developed in contact metamorphosed limestones or calcic igneous rocks; in chlorite schists and serpentinites and in alkalic igneous rocks. The varieties, Demantoid and Topazolite are rare and when of sufficiently high quality they may be cut into gems.
