The name Orpiment comes from the Latin auripigmentum (aurum - gold + pigmentum - pigment) because of its deep-yellow color. Orpiment was traded in the Roman Empire and was used as a medicine in China even though it is very toxic. It has been used as a fly poison and to tip arrows with poison. It has also been used as pigment in painting. New Age Therapists say Orpiment works with one’s mind, helping one to reason from a more aware perspective. A great mineral for students and those taking exams.
